This little piggy went to the butcher.....

One BIG piggy wrecked havoc upon our yard last night!
Last night, Mike went out to burn garbage and saw our neighbors HUGE pig in our yard. So we all went out to see it. At the time the beast was only eating the grass around the porch which sounded so disgusting. Mike called the neighbor and they came down to get the pig but the pig ran off into the woods and since it was dark, Mike told them not to worry about it.

"We don't want it rootin' up your yard" says the neighbor.

"Don't worry about it," says my city-raised husband.

"Pigs can rip up the yard pretty good," I tell him.

This morning, we all left while it was still dark. I came home after a relaxing swim and a physical therapy appointment.

TO THIS!!!

I wish I had a picture of the ugly hog that destroyed our yard. Alas, much to my pleasure, said hog is being butchered today.

One day too late, if you ask me!

Junior Prom

Do you remember your Junior Prom?

I do. But I'd rather not. It wasn't the highlight of my year, that is for certain.

For my Junior Prom, I went with the guy that I was currently dating, which wasn't Mike. I was excited since I originally hadn't planned to go. I bought my own dress which wasn't sparkly, slinky or long. It was a spaghetti strapped-lace covered-knee length thing that was really very pretty. I thought I looked rather nice. My date showed up and had a red rose wrist corsage for me. My dad dutifully took pictures that I have never seen. I wonder if they were ever developed. See, that was a long time ago. No digital cameras back then!

I was nervous but excited for the Grand March. We stopped at his sister's house to show off our fancy duds and then we'd be on our way. Well, lo and behold, his sister and her husband were watching WWF wrestling and he got sucked into that.

We NEVER made it to the Grand March. I was SO upset. But being Lil' Miss Nicety-Nice, I didn't say anything and we headed on over to the dance. Which, by the way, is the lamest part of the prom. Who agrees? I spent more time sitting and watching the juvenile antics of all the guys than I did dancing and when it was over, and I didn't win any of the door prizes, we headed out. And I asked to be brought home. I think that was the first time I was home BEFORE my curfew (I had always made it home BY curfew but that was definitely a first for me!).

My senior year, I was dating Mike and we decided to skip the prom (he'd already done the prom thing with his ex-wife) and do the Senior Dinner-Dance instead. Lame-O! Another bad choice.

ANYWAY!!!! I told you all that just to let you know that Mike's oldest son, Anthony, just went to his Junior Prom this past Saturday.

I feel old.

Mike and Michael went to Menominee to see him.

He escorted his girlfriend, Krystal.

They are a cute couple and both looked so nice in their formal attire.

Anthony was also a member of the prom court. Their theme was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

When the crowning took place, each court member received a chocolate bar and the girl and boy with the golden tickets were crowned Queen and King (decided upon by a prior vote).

Anthony did not get the ticket but Grandma was so proud of him anyway. Who wouldn't be proud to claim such a handsome young man as their own?

Do you have a good prom story to tell? Please share!

Mouse Tales

Hey everyone! I haven't forgotten about you. This has just been a very, very, very busy week. It has left me run down, cold and exhausted. Tonight I feel really icky. I don't even know how to explain it. Just icky.

But...I have a great story to tell. This happened Sunday night. I wanted to post it first thing Monday morning but I'm trying to get my priorities straightened out now before I go adding bigger responsibilities like school into the picture. Plus the boys had a 2 hour delay so there was no blogging for me.

Sunday night I was all tucked in, ready to doze off and Mike went out to the kitchen for a glass of Crystal Light. All of a sudden he calls me to come see something.

Oh, I did not want to get out of that bed. I asked him if it could wait and he was adamant that I come out there right then and see it. So, being the ever obedient wife *cough*, I did.

I heard scratching coming from under the kitchen cupboard where we keep the paper garbage.

I'm no dummy and I knew immediately what it meant...a MOUSE! Oiy!

So I instructed my husband, in a very terse, no-nonsense, manner to get it out of the house. So he grabs the bag, rolls the top of it and shakes it like there's no tomorrow.

Now, not to brag on myself or anything, but I am THE Mouse Warrior in this household. I take it very personally when a mouse intrudes on my domain. I once clobbered a mouse with a chunk of 2X4. Another time I took out a rude mouse staring at me in the bathroom with a package of Scott Toilet Tissue. Then there was the time I trapped a mouse behind the microwave with sticky traps on either side and used a fly swatter to herd him into one of them.

Anyway, I tell Mike to flatten the mostly-empty bag and lay it on the floor. I'm gonna do Mickey in with the broom this time. No fooling around.

Instead, Mike puts the AIR-TIGHT, rolled, paper bag on the floor and proceeds to........

JUMP ON IT!

It burst. You knew that was coming right?

Well, it's after 11pm and the kids are sleeping but that didn't stop me from letting out a blood-curdling scream as the big, fat mouse flew out of that hole, propelled by the force of the trapped air, into the middle of the kitchen floor. At that point there was no getting at him without also smacking Mike, but maybe I should've done it anyway. He definitely deserved it after that huge, yes, HUGE, mouse ran off into the dark corners of the house.

I had nightmares of mice. Reepicheep mean anything to you?

~ My Husband Rocks! ~ The Moment I Knew...

Prompt/Theme for Friday, January 30, 2009

.....the moment or the circumstances that led to you knowing that you were going to marry the man who became your husband....

As I've mentioned before, Mike and I would drive around after work in the wee hours of the morning. Sometimes we would go to a truck stop diner and have a cheap breakfast or go fishing or just burn up miles of asphalt and talk. Most of the time my brother Jason was with us.

It didn't take long before Mike knew I had a huge crush on him. I really didn't ever think anything would come of it; I was just having fun. But the longer we worked together and the more time we spent together, the more I liked Mike and really wanted our relationship to go farther than just work acquaintances or friends.

I remember sitting in the parking lot one morning as he was dropping me off at my car and I was looking at his profile and thinking how he was becoming more to me. He was my confidant and I could really tell him EVERYTHING. It was just a week or so later that we were driving down Riverside and we were talking about how we wanted our homes decorated, the number of kids we wanted, how we would raise those kids and where we wanted to live. The conversation started with us talking about our individual lives and as we talked we were soon incorporating each other's ideas into what we wanted and what we "would do". That is when I thought in my mind that he wanted to move forward in a serious relationship and that we were on the same page with values and dreams for our futures. I KNEW he was the one I wanted and somehow, despite the circumstances we were in, we would end up together.
